a childrens story
the reading standards were much higher i guess in the 40s. this is an incredibly well written book, and while it breaks no boundaries of the imagination or literature, it has secured itself a place in the realm of american classics just by how solid it is. you find yourself invested in the family and in the end begging for shane to come back. the action is also incredibly gripping with its brutal no frills bar fights, something i didnt expect in a childrens book. this is a quick and entertaining read, i say go for it.
